Origins

Mahaiwe Tent was founded in 1986 by my parents, Tom and Lauren Cavanaugh, who built the business from the ground up with hard work, long days, and a belief that showing up mattered. In the early years, growing Mahaiwe meant early mornings, late nights, and doing whatever it took to make each event happen. The name Mahaiwe (pronounced Muh-HAY-We) honors the Mohican people and the southern Berkshires, a place long shaped by gathering and connection. I grew up alongside the company, learning early that this work is about commitment, care, and pride in what you build.

Growth

Over the next 30 years, Mahaiwe Tent grew through hard work, loyal staff, and the continued support of the Berkshire community. What started small expanded carefully and intentionally, built on relationships, word of mouth, and a commitment to doing the job right every time. Our hands-on approach has always been at the center of that growth—from planning to installation—creating consistency, trust, and results our clients can rely on. Today, Mahaiwe Tent is proud to be the leading rental company in the Berkshires, known for dependable service and attention to detail.

Carrying It Forward

In 2016, I began taking over day-to-day operations as the second generation of Mahaiwe Tent, and a few years later, I proudly purchased the business. While our core values remain unchanged, I focused on modernizing Mahaiwe through new relationships, expanded inventory, and thoughtful growth. The company truly blossomed when we built a brand-new warehouse and relocated our operations after 40 years—creating the space we now proudly call home. Choosing a small, family-owned business means personal service, quality you can trust, and a team that genuinely cares—every tent we raise carries a piece of our history, and we love sharing that passion with our clients and community to help them create their own milestone events.
